Hello, I was wondering if record company information is available to date records by the numbers on them. Were the numbers issued in numerical order on most issues? Is such information available. Any info on this would be appreciated thanks, Bob

Yes! There are many books that can tell you (or help you determine) dates for when the recording was made and when it was issued. A great starting point is The Almost Complete 78 RPM Record Dating Guide II.

Other, more detailed books exist (many through Greenwood Publishing) but they can run in to some serious dough. Hopefully this helps you out!

Link correction: Try Kurt Nauck's webpage www.78rpm.com under the resource section! The book should run around $20.00!
